While on leave from National Service with the RAF in 1946, Tom B McMillan visited his brother at Cranslagloan Farm to help with the harvest. Whilst there, he met by chance John, 4th Marquess of Bute, who was out horse riding. They had a shared enthusiasm to see a Highland Games re-established on Bute, replacing previous games which had lapsed, leaving no clear history. Research done by T M McMillan in 1970 led to the conclusion that the very first Bute Highland Games had been held in 1872. Therefore this publication marks not only the 75th anniversary, but also the 150th.
