Videos and DVDs
A delightful portrait of one of Britain's finest jazz guitarists and most accomplished broadcasters, Ken Sykora. Discovered at the age of 19 by Ivor Mairants and twice voted Britain's best guitarist, Ken's musical career was cut short by the 2nd World War and then by rock'n'roll. He moved into broadcasting and in the late 50s inspired a generation of guitarists through his popular BBC radio programme, 'Guitar Club'. By the late 60s he was one of Britain's most loved radio broadcasters. But at the peak of his popularity in the early 1970s, he suddenly and unexpectedly quit the BBC in London, moving his family to Scotland, to run the Colintraive Hotel on the Kyles of Bute. He subsequently moved to Blairmore.By the time of his death in 2006, Ken was a forgotten artist. Fortunately, he had left behind a vast archive of rare recordings, documents and memorabilia from which his fascinating life story was uncovered. Featuring intimate interviews with his three children, close friends and colleagues, this is the captivating story of a modest man who dedicated his life to sharing his love of music, words, food and Django Reinhardt. A true individual with an inspirational approach to life, Ken Sykora is a fine talent to discover, enjoy and remember.
