The growth of Helensburgh and neighbouring settlements : prepared in partial fulfilment of degree of MA (Hons) Geography

The town of Helensburgh is slightly unusual, both in its origins and in its present form and character. It is for this reason that a study of the town has been made. An attempt will be made to consider the Burgh of Helensburgh in relation to neighbouring settlements, namely Cove and Kilcreggan, Rosneath, Clynder, Garelochhead, Shandon, Rhu, Cardross and Dumbarton. This dissertation aims to describe and, to some extent, analyse the growth of these settlements and to account for the present features within Helensburgh. It is hoped that the strongly contrasting characters of Dumbarton and Helensburgh will become apparent.
