The author describes building his boat in steel with his son Rob, a welder, together developing and perfecting many new techniques and methods, from Bruce Robert's plans of Slocum's Spray. Choosing, felling, treating timber for masts and interior fittings; sourcing materials for ballast and arranging transport to the sea over eighty miles away. After shakedown voyages to the Hebrides he met his wife Else and together they embarked on a yearlong 10,000-mile voyage, full of incredible sights and sailing adventures. Snorkelling in the warm Caribbean amongst vast shoals of multi-coloured fish and many close encounters with 80-foot whales!
