As a young child Elizabeth Gowdie accidentally discovered in her grandmother's house some items connected to her uncle, Neilly McGinley. This fired her imagination and she dreamt that she would one day write a book dedicated to her uncle. In her teens and early twenties, Elizabeth spent some time writing poetry and got some of it published. But it was not until many years later, after the death of her uncle, that she decided to tackle the book.
