When Werner Kissling died in a Dumfries nursing home in 1988 he was something of an enigma, leaving behind a single case filled with photos and papers. His story is told here along with photos not seen since they were taken in the 1930s. They revealed the story of this German aristocrat whose life had mirrored and reflected the 20th century and who was passionately involved with the ordinary people of the Western Isles.
