Section 1 of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Act 197 requires the Secretary of State for Scotland to mantain a schedule of monuments of national importance and to publish from time to time a list of such monuments. The following list is correct as at 31 March 1999. The list is arranged in order of local authority, or Council, areas.
