For many years, a treasure in the Hallett family has been a photocopied version of their relative Archibald Crawford's book, '85 years in Australia', now long out of print. A keen writer and publisher himself, Peter Hallett found inspiration in his great great grandfather's achievement in writing a book in his nineties, even though it had been said: 'Archibald dictated the script of this publication to his daughter when he was quite old and when his memories might often have not been quite accurate. However, his story is full of fascinating detail, reflecting as it does the vicissitudes and lifestyles of early rural pioneers of the time.' Whatever the accuracy, Archibald left many significant historical yarns barely hinted at, leaving room for his descendant to add detail that results in a wonderful encounter with early Australian colonial history.
