In 1946 an ex-Army officer took up residence with his family in a derelict house on the Isle of Mull. It lacked windows and the roof leaked; a cow occupied one room and hens another. The water supply was 300 yards away, and only a cart track connected the place with the main road three miles away. This is the story of what happened to them.
