The complete short fiction : volume 1 the stories

Conrad, Joseph1992
Books, Manuscripts
'The Complete Short Fiction of Joseph Conrad', a collection in four volumes, is the only available complete edition of Conrad's short fiction. The edition highlights a genre too often overlooked among the author's considerable body of work. Volume 1, 'The Lagoon and Other Stories' assembles chronologically the first nine of twenty-two stories published between 1896 and 1928. Presented here with a bibliography, a chronology of Conrad's life, and the author's own notes on the text, these early stories reveal Conrad's awareness of the essential complexity of the human condition: by turns romantic, dramatic, heroic and tragic. The stories resonate with the themes of restlessness, exile and loss, rooted in the experiences of Conrad's early life of 'hazard and adventure'.
