The company I've kept

MacDiarmid, Hugh, 1892-19781966
Books, Manuscripts
Hugh MacDiarmid called his book 'an autobiography'. But no single autobiography could begin to contain and reveal the genius and magnitude of the man who is now regarded as one of Scotland's greatest poets. 'The company I've kept' is in fact a collection of closely related essays about almost everything Scottish of any significance under the sun. Principally it is about people. The author makes it clear that he is not interested in the tittl-tattle that so often passes for friendship; he is interested in people, and considers them friends, for what they are and for the ideas and actions they promulgate.
