The writer of these memoirs was Mary Streete Campbell, the eldest daughter of Thomas Fraser Campbell of Lagganlochan. She was born at Ardrishaig on the 31st January 1805, and lived in Campbeltown until 1839, when she joined her eldest brother in Kingston, Jamaica. She remained with her brother's family for over 60 years and died in Glasgow in 1900 at the age of 95.
