Lovely she goes! : [a story of Arctic trawling]

Mitford, William1969
Books, Manuscripts
This tremendous, brutally true account of twenty men and one ship against the northern seas was written by a trawlerman (Fisherman No. 6250). Within weeks of its completion three trawlers sank without trace or explanation, and many men died. The loss of these ships shocked the nation. Even in spite of the disasters 'Lovely she goes' would have beeen read and remembered as a classic of the sea. Now a better informed public isll be able to feel and understand for itself what a bitter price must sometimes be paid for harvesting the relentless ocean. There is no romance in being a trawlerman and nothing can alter the facts: distant water trawling is Britain's most dangerous job. It is the hardest job a man can have. 'Lovely she goes!' is more than a tribute to the brave men of Grimsby. It is a searing and thrilling document, a real-life adventure in the great British tradition.
