Highland Mary is Dunoon's most famous daughter, for her name is known wherever that of Burns is honoured, yet very little is known of her life. Biographers of Burns have had to piece her story together from a few scraps of evidence and a great deal more hearsay. Even now, there are important gaps which may never be filled.
