Apparently an offprint from a newspaper article. Sir James Turner's 'Memoirs' were printed in Edinburgh in 1829, and so probably were not available to the writer of the first part. Presumably the editor of the whole added the excerpt from Turner's 'Memoirs', and then supplied the notes as his corrective to the 18th century version of events.
