The enterprises, interests and accomplishments of Duncan McNab McEachran originated from growing up in his birthplace of Campbeltown. An avid preoccupation with animal breeding and care, and an involvement in public service were common in both his immediate family and his ancestors. He graduated from the Edinburgh Veterinary College in 1862 and left almost immediately for Canada. His unshakeable conviction in his vision of the future of veterinary medicine, and his intellect and charisma, won him friends and respect from government, the medical profession and business. Within 5 years he had established a practice and veterinary school in Montreal with higher standards than any in North America.
