The National Gallery of Art is the greatest treasure house of western art in the United States. In this volume, more than 1,000 paintings appear in colour and every full-page colour plate has a detailed commentary. From the early Italian and Northern masters, to those of the twentieth century, all the great painters are represented - Giotto, Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Titian, Rubens, Rembrandt, Vermeer, El Greco, Manet, Cezanne, Picasso among them. Sculptures and views of the galleries are also shown, and a separate section is devoted to master drawings.
